From The Chair: Guest Perspective Invitation

This morning, I posted a link to the opening salvo of From The Chair in a Facebook group I follow. I received not only good feedback – including a couple of folks saying it’ll help them! – but also a wonderful idea: how about getting other RDs to contribute?

I’m all for it!

So… if you RD and have thoughts or comments you’d like to share, I welcome you to join From The Chair as a Guest Perspective! Please contribute anything from alternate takes on parts of posts I’ve made to full blown posts of your own, on topics I have or have not covered. Your content will be attributed to you using whatever form you’d like: name, name/track, email address, anonymous, whatever. I reserve the right to edit your content for clarity and to remove anything objectionable, because everything on RCThreadz reflects on me personally.

Also, I’d like to create a section like “Why I Like To RD” if folks would like to send me blurbs on this topic. Might inspire someone new to try.

    Turn marshals
So one the hardest things I have had is getting the turn marshals out on the track in a timely manner. I know we say we are going to dock you a lap from your fastest qualifier. I have been at races where the rd says this then never does ( I’m guilty of it I will admit) if you say it in your drivers meeting that you keep your word and do it if not they will walk all over you and slow your program down while you wait trying to get volunteers. There are the times where a driver has multiple entries and there races are back to back. A) I would suggest a lap from all qualifiers for being late and stick to and do it! B) if they sign up in multiple classes that it is that drivers responsibility to find a marshal and tell you who they are so you can verify they have their marshal out for the appropriate race. If their marshal is not out there said driver loses a lap.

    Why I like to RD
I like to RD because you have the best seat in the house to see the races!
I enjoy calling out the battles on the track even if I’m not as good as Paul Gaertner, Daniel Grobe those guys have a great ability to recognize paint schemes me nope…lol
I also like being able to joke people while they are racing and you learn who gets the curse of the race Director’s attention they usually get nervous and make a mistake. I personally will try not to call their name out as often but will call the second place behind the leader or something similar.
